Many people, only having got in Wednesday of design, believe, that can excel, if will learn to do(make) qualitative design. Thus they overlook about the main party(side) of design activity - necessities design to sell. The designer is a trade, and the design is the goods which should be sold. These goods designers also sell. I present shapeless chorus of the voices protesting against such position; a pier designers - creators, and should be engaged in selling agents and sale-managers. Radically not the correct position and it will understand everyone to whom it was necessary to hand over job to the project head or to show its(her) sale-manager.




The majority of sale-managers is interested only in one - on sales. They sit on percent(interests) is their bread and their oil(butter). Therefore they will want everything that will be wanted by their client if only that has bought a product. Him(it) not before creativity and not up to quality, at them one purpose - the transaction. Only very competent and far-sighted sale-managers understand what to sell poor-quality sites to please to clients not favourably in long-term prospect. Only the most talented sale-managers understand, that everyone should be professional in the business and trust designers. And only units from them think out system of the argument under job of the designer, instead of demand the design corresponding to their system of the argument. Such sellers - a gift for the designer, and gifts do not happen much. Is more often designer should prove to the client, the director and the sale-manager, that his(its) design is good, and it is not necessary to place everyone - that client want see on a home page. So really good designer is the one who is able not only to make qualitative design, but also to give reason for the choice. Otherwise, muffledly having murmured pity justifications of really qualitative job, the designer will be compelled to spoil her(it) to please direct brotherhood or he will simply lose the order that is even worse. Therefore I repeat once again, the designer should be able to sell the design.




I shall result to you some receptions from the experience as it can be made competently.




First, terminology.


People have got used to that mathematics, the biology and physics is difficultly because they have ruined ten years at school, being tormented above tutorials and domestic tasks. To their design at school did not learn(teach), did not put the two for control. Therefore people perceive design as a household field of knowledge - there all simply. You should break this settled stereotype first of all. Do not hesitate to use professional terminology in conversation with the client (the client is understood as any person to whom you try to prove advantage of your design). Use words: a Visual number(line), ergonomics, usability, a color discord, a composition, structurization, the concept, color, scale, a content, logic blocks, frames, structures, contrast images, a metaphor, bandwidth, laws of perception(recognition), etc., etc.




All this terminological reservation will allow you to break developed opinion on simplicity of design. The client, as well as any normal person, in a life did not hear about laws of perception(recognition); the composition for him(it) is that he and could not master in the fifth class at lessons of drawing; and þçàáèëèòè for him(it) in general a dark wood. Due to this the client for the first time for itself will open things obvious to you, that the design has the concept, the color formula, the logic circuit, the rhythm and a saturation. In only case when the client will understand the main thing, that he feature does not understand in design, that he not the professional who pays money to professionals for competent job which itself to execute is not capable.




However it is impossible and to be overzealous with clever words that the client did not have an opinion, that it(him)  a muzzle in dung and hold for the moron. In this case he can simply take offence and leave. You should look clever and correct. It is the first pledge of that the client will be ashamed to climb to you with the illiterate advice(councils). Simply politely and unostentatiously give him to understand, that his(its) advice(councils) are illiterate. He will understand it and even will be happy, that has found such professional and knowingly spends money.




The second rule of dialogue with the client consists in that he has seen as you work.




Show him accidentally preparation of the image in Photoshop or a breadboard model of a site in Dreamweaver. Thus try, that the interface looked as much as possible íàâîðî÷åííûì. Open more menus even if they and are not necessary basically, - the client all the same will not understand. The main thing that he has understood as your job is laborious and complex(difficult). It is necessary that the client has come to a conclusion, that he not only has found the necessary person, but also does not overpay to him. Understand, that for the client of knowledge of a computer it is limited MS Word and MS Exel. The majority of clients has conscious opinion, that the computer is very difficultly and, simultaneously, unconscious conviction, that there no anything more difficultly MS Word. Let know to the client, that your programs on complexity differ from in what he worked as the fighter differs from the kite. Thus let's him sit up at the monitor, and that still that kind will guess, that image in some part affected. Let for him(it) your work remains a secret for çàíàâåñîì.




The third rule of dialogue with the client concerns submission of a material.


I shall not result to you the figures speaking what influence packing on sales volumes renders, I simply do not own such data. But believe, this influence is huge. Recollect an old saying - " Meet on îäåæêå … ". The buyer has a first impression about the goods on appearance. It concerns also design. As it is paradoxical sounds, but to design, as well as any goods, good packing is necessary. Save a material on a diskette or CD. Sign the digital carrier. Thus let there will be not only the name, but also brief those. Characteristics. Be not too lazy to make qualitative listings of your design. Place them in a beautiful folder. Be not afraid to spend a superfluous pair of hundreds for registration of the goods. But the main thing supply listings by the engineering specifications: schedules of color formulas used at creation, circuits of an arrangement of elements, logic interrelations, descriptions of a composition. Print text support with an explanation of the job. Make all this and it will be pleasant for the client. He will feel, that has knowingly spent money.




Such advice(councils) born from personal experience. I hope they to you will be useful. In fact it is not enough to do(make) good design to begin the good designer. It is necessary still(even) to be able to convince others that your design is good. Speaking to convince others, I have no in a kind of colleagues on shop for you would not be filled in by what nightingale, all of them equally will draw own conclusions. And it is good, should though someone to allow healthy and competent criticism.
